Alex Eagle’s Positano

Alex Eagle’s Positano
In Article, News

Original illustration by Luke Edward Hall.

“Positano bites deep,” wrote a newly-besotted John Steinbeck in 1953. Alex Eagle first visited five years ago, and similarly fell head over heels in love:

“Positano is one of the most beautiful places on earth. A picture postcard of timeless perfection,” she says.

She has returned every year since, exploring the vertiginous cliffside dotted with hotels, bars, restaurants and impossibly picturesque swimming spots. Its allure is manifold:

“The heavenly climate makes you want to walk around barefoot, but it’s glamorous enough to wear diamonds if you feel like it.”

It is this duality of freedom and glamour that has inspired the Positano collection, Alex Eagle’s capsule range named in honour of her favourite Italian town. A selection of dresses and made-to-measure separates in cotton, silk and silk crepe, the collection is imbued with the timeless elegance that is the signature style of both Positano and the Alex Eagle woman.

Each piece bears the name of one of Alex’s favourite places:

The Sirenuse

A striped cotton shirtdress – is ideal for cocktails by the pool at the world-renowned boutique hotel.

The Adolfo

A cotton shirtdress available in white and navy, or white and pink stripes – is a tribute to the tiny beach shack-cum-restaurant Da Adolfo, Alex’s favourite restaurant on earth.

The Treville

A tunic and trouser set in a deep olive green silk and navy silk crepe – bears the moniker of Villa Tre Ville, the “bonkers but so beautiful” former home of maestro Franco Zeffirelli.

The Nureyev Dress

A full-skirted belted cotton dress in a light blue and white stripe, is named for Rudolf Nureyev, former owner of Li Galli, a private island just off the Positano coast.

The spirit of Positano as expressed in these garments is one of fun, freedom, romance and effortless elegance, and it is this that has brought Eagle back year after year.

“When you are there, you could be in any era. Positano inspires me to wear something that chimes with the pared back relaxation of the place and its heritage, something timeless.”
